Once there was a beautiful man who wanted to build a garden. David Cliff French, just plain “French” to his friends, was a man of many, many talents. An artist, a hairstylist, makeup artist, decorator, master gardener, party planner, style guru, and all around bon vivant. He made friends instantly and kept them by being the kind of true friend anyone would like to have. No one was a stranger to French and his charisma and humor were irresistible.
A great light went out in our world when we lost him tragically, too soon, at just age 32. His death was swift and sudden of an undiagnosed heart ailment and for someone with such a huge heart, it’s strangely ironic. He left us at the height of his beauty and fabulousness, leaving many friends and admirers.
This site is dedicated to preserving his memory by tracking the garden he built in East Dallas. It’s now in the hands of his friends who are continuing his work, improving it, tweaking it, making the changes he would have made to it year by year if he had lived.
In his professional life, French was a Lancome makeup artist who did makeup for DIFFA, Crystal Charity, Allure Bridal and many print, TV and runway events. He worked for some of Dallas’s top salons and dedicated his life to empowering women by helping them find their unique beauty through his capable and loving hands.
